It's been a while...

Wow! Time flies when you’re having fun.

Looking at the previous posts, it’s hard to remember when I was just starting out with DSLR video. These days all my other video gear just languishes on the shelf.

Anyway, I now have some extra time on my hands so I’ll try to update this blog on a more regular basis.

I have my first professional video shoot with the Canon 7D coming up in about three weeks time. Which is not to say I haven’t shot video professionally before but I’m still nervous about stepping out with the 7D.

Do I go guerilla style and just take the camera and some lenses? Do I go all out and take everything but the kitchen sink? The more I look at my growing collection of 7D add-ons the more I think I don’t really need them.

So the question is: What HDDSLR equipment wouldn’t you leave home without? Do you take it all or is there a core setup that lets you handle whatever the shoot throws at you?

Let me know what you do….

OK – so the ‘back soon’ was a bit optimistic… it’s amazing how busy you can get without even noticing.  It stems from an inability to say “no” when I should. Not to mention that somehow that little bit extra never sounds like it’ll take to much time to get done.

Anyway – I do plan to be back early in the new year.  I actually have something to write about at last.  Even though this site is called the DV Workshop I’ve spent the last few weeks taking some small steps into amateur filmmaking so I plan to document that here.

I’ll start with the tale of my Canon 7D kit.  Not the high end stuff that everyone in the forums seems to be able to afford but just enough to get by.  At the end of the day it’s about the image on the screen not who made the gear you used to get it there.

Back Soon!
